Active ingredient: theophylline (as theophylline monohydrate) 

Form: prolonged-release (sustained-release) tablets

Packaging for 100 mg strength: 50 tablets (10 per blister × 5 blisters) 

Dosage & administration (typical guidelines):
  • Take orally 30–60 minutes before a meal or 2 hours after a meal with sufficient water. 
  • You should not crush, chew, or dissolve the tablet. 
  • For the 300 mg tablet, it may be split in half; the 100 mg tablets should not be divided. 

Typical adult initial dose (≥ 12 years, > 45 kg): 300 mg once daily (1 tablet 300 mg or 3 × 100 mg) 

Dose escalation: After 3 days, may increase to 450 mg/day, and thereafter possibly up to 600 mg/day, depending on tolerability and clinical response.

  • Bronchial asthma
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) / chronic bronchitis, emphysema 
  • Pulmonary hypertension
  • Central sleep apnea syndrome
