A sterile 0.9% sodium chloride solution (normal saline) is an isotonic, preservative-free electrolyte solution containing 9 mg sodium chloride per ml. It is intended for parenteral use such as IV injection or infusion, and is also widely used as a diluent for injectable medications and to maintain sterility during administration.
