Besalol is a medication (tablet form) used to relieve gastrointestinal discomfort, especially where there are spasms of smooth muscles (e.g. in the gut) and some issues with excess secretion or overgrowth of intestinal bacteria.

Each single tablet of Besalol contains:

• Belladonna extract (thick extract) — approximately 10 mg 

• Phenylsalicylate (salol) — 300 mg

• Belladonna extract: anticholinergic (blocks muscarinic receptors), spasmolytic (relaxing smooth muscle), reduces secretion in glands (salivary, gastric, bronchial, etc.). 

• Phenylsalicylate (salol): in the alkaline environment of the intestines it breaks down into salicylic acid and phenol, which have antiseptic/antibacterial and anti‑inflammatory effects.

So together, it relieves spasms + reduces intestinal bacteria + decreases secretions.
