Description
Creon is used in children and adults with "pancreatic exocrine insufficiency". This is a condition in which the pancreas gland does not produce enough enzymes to digest food. It is often found in people who have:
Cystic fibrosis - a rare hereditary disease
Blocked ducts from the pancreas or bile (pancreatic duct or common bile duct)
Acute inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis). Creon can be taken after food intake has been resumed.
Chronic inflammation of the pancreas (chronic pancreatitis)
Pancreatic cancer
Partial or complete surgical removal of the pancreas (partial or total pancreatectomy)
Partial or complete surgical removal of the stomach (partial or total gastrectomy)
Gastrointestinal bypass
Shwachman-Diamond syndrome, a very rare genetic disorder
