Yomesan 500 mg Tablets – Antiparasitic Treatment (Niclosamide)

Yomesan 500 mg is an antiparasitic medication used for the treatment of intestinal tapeworm infections. It contains niclosamide, an active substance that acts directly in the intestinal lumen to destroy adult tapeworms, allowing them to be eliminated naturally from the body.

Niclosamide is not absorbed into the bloodstream, which makes Yomesan suitable for localized intestinal treatmentwithout systemic exposure.

Indications (Tapeworms Treated)

• Taenia saginata (beef tapeworm)

• Taenia solium (pork tapeworm)

• Diphyllobothrium latum (broad / fish tapeworm)

• Hymenolepis nana (dwarf tapeworm)

Note: Yomesan is not effective against larval (tissue) infections such as cysticercosis or echinococcosis.

Dosage and Administration

Beef, Pork, and Fish Tapeworms (1-day treatment):

• Adults and children over 6 years: 4 tablets as a single dose

• Children 2–6 years: 2 tablets as a single dose

• Children under 2 years: 1 tablet as a single dose

Dwarf Tapeworm (7-day treatment):

• Adults and children over 6 years:

  • Day 1: 4 tablets

  • Days 2–6: 2 tablets daily

• Children 2–6 years:

  • Day 1: 2 tablets

  • Days 2–6: 1 tablet daily

• Children under 2 years:

  • Day 1: 1 tablet

  • Days 2–6: ½ tablet daily

Tablets should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. No special diet is required.

During and After Treatment

• Acidic fruit juices (such as orange juice) may help enhance parasite elimination

• If constipation is present, bowel movements should be regulated before treatment

• For beef, pork, or fish tapeworms, a saline laxative (for example, magnesium or sodium sulfate) may be taken 2 hours after dosing to accelerate parasite expulsion

• This step is especially important for pork tapeworm infections
