What it is

• The active ingredient is Chondroitin sulfate (sodium salt form) — a major component of cartilage matrix. It is marketed by Lekfarm ООО (Belarus) in forms including:

  • Solution for intramuscular injection: 200 mg/2 ml (i.e., 100 mg/ml).

• It is classified under “chondroprotective / metabolic agents for cartilage and bone tissue”. 

How it works (Pharmacology)

• Chondroitin sulfate is part of the proteoglycan-collagen network in cartilage and contributes to its elasticity, resilience and mechanical properties.

• Mechanisms of the drug include:

  • Inhibiting enzymes that degrade cartilage (e.g., metalloproteinases, hyaluronidase) 

  • Reducing inflammatory mediators in joint fluid (e.g., leukotrienes, prostaglandin E₂) 

  • Improving cartilage matrix synthesis and supporting cartilage repair. 

• Onset and distribution: after intramuscular administration, it enters the bloodstream, reaches synovial fluid and cartilage tissue. 

Indications (when it’s used)

According to the manufacturer and instruction:

• Degenerative-dystrophic diseases of joints and spine: e.g., peripheral osteoarthritis (large joints), intervertebral osteochondrosis, osteoarthrosis. 

• In injection form the solution is used to influence cartilage metabolic processes. 

• In capsule form, for internal oral therapy, to support joint health. 

Dosage & administration (general)

Solution (injection form):

• Typical adult dose: 100 mg (1 ml) intramuscularly every other day. After 4th injection and if well tolerated, up to 200 mg (2 ml) every other day.
