Hirudoid® Forte Cream 445 mg/100 g is a German topical medicinal product containing chondroitin polysulfate. It has anti-swelling and anti-inflammatory properties and is used locally for blunt injuries with or without bruising (hematomas) and for superficial vein inflammation when compression treatment cannot be used.
Each 100 g of cream contains 445 mg chondroitin polysulfate derived from bovine trachea, corresponding to 40,000 units of activity measured using activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT).

Indications
According to the German package information, Hirudoid Forte Cream is used for the local treatment of:
- Blunt injuries (trauma)
- Injuries with bruising or hematoma
- Injuries without visible bruising
- Superficial vein inflammation, when compression treatment cannot be used
For superficial inflammation of veins in the legs, compression remains the primary treatment measure when appropriate.
Directions for Use
Unless otherwise directed by a healthcare professional:
Apply Hirudoid Forte Cream to the affected area 2–3 times daily, or more frequently if necessary.
Depending on the size of the affected area, a strip of cream approximately 3–5 cm long is generally sufficient.
For ordinary blunt injuries, gently massage the cream into the affected area.
For particularly painful inflammation, apply the cream carefully to the affected area and surrounding skin and cover with a dressing if appropriate. In these situations, the cream should not be rubbed or massaged vigorously.
Duration of Use
Typical treatment duration is:
- Blunt injuries: up to approximately 10 days
- Superficial vein inflammation: approximately 1–2 weeks
If symptoms have not improved after 14 days of regular use, or return after treatment is completed, consult a healthcare professional.
