Tardyferon® 80 mg Prolonged-Release Tablets is an oral iron supplement containing 80 mg of elemental iron (as dried ferrous sulfate) in a controlled-release formulation. It is indicated for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia when increased iron intake is required.

The prolonged-release technology allows the iron to be released gradually in the small intestine, helping to improve absorption while reducing gastrointestinal irritation compared with immediate-release iron preparations.

Directions for Use

Adults and adolescents:

• Take 1 tablet daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional.
• Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.
• Do not chew, crush, or suck the tablet.
• Continue treatment until iron stores are replenished, which may require several months.

Important Administration Tips

• Iron is best absorbed on an empty stomach when tolerated.
• Avoid taking at the same time as:
  • Milk and dairy products
  • Coffee or tea
  • Eggs
  • High-fiber foods
  • Calcium supplements or antacids
• If stomach upset occurs, it may be taken with food.

Warnings

• Do not use if you have iron overload disorders (such as hemochromatosis or hemosiderosis) or anemia not caused by iron deficiency.
• Keep out of reach of children. Accidental overdose of iron-containing products can be fatal in young children.
• Common side effects may include constipation, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, or dark-colored stools.
• Consult a healthcare professional before use during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or while taking other medications.
• Separate administration from certain antibiotics, thyroid medications, and other medicines that interact with iron by at least 2–4 hours.
